Recently, a customer called us in to see if we could help them out with their SubZero refrigerator.
The top-left door hinge was severely acting up on them and they wanted a professional service, such as us, to help them replace the hinge without causing any unnecessary damage or disturbance to the rest of the unit.
They did the right thing by contacting us since we've done many of these types of replacement repairs before.
After we got the necessary hinge replacement, placed a few braces underneath the bottom of the fridge door to keep it steady if it were to drop all of a sudden.
We then proceeded to unscrewed the prior top left hinge.
While supporting the free-floating fridge door with our free hand, we changed out the faulty hinge with the good one and then screwed that one in nice and securely.
This project didn't take long, but that doesn't mean we didn't take our time with it.
Hinge replacements can be tricky business, but lucky for our customer we always treat every one of our jobs with a dedication towards quality and a patience for perfection. Even if it's just a simple refrigerator door hinge.
Door hinges are often easily overlooked in the grand scheme of refrigerators.
As a whole, no proper running refrigerator is complete without these quintessential parts operating as they should be.
Top Hinges - For this specific project which we worked on, we only replaced the top left hinge of the fridge.
The top hinges of refrigerators act as the main guides for the movement of the door.
If these hinges are severely out of alignment, then the entire door is susceptible to not creating a proper seal for ideal cooling temperatures, thus rendering the refrigeration process and cycle utterly cand completely useless.
Bottom Hinges - Now, even though we didn't touch the bottom hinges of the SubZero door for this project, it's still very important to note their purpose in regards to the unit.
The bottom hinges of refrigerator doors act as the main structures of support for the door.
The included upright brackets keep everything stable and steady as the doors are opened and closed day in and day out.
Whenever a customer or an inexperienced repairman seeks to replace the door hinges of a refrigerator, it's not entirely uncommon for a few mistakes to occur.
One of the most common is not keeping a secure hand on the unit. Yes, the air seals of most refrigerators do a great job at keeping the doors steady during these tricky repairs, but that doesn't mean they'll always hold up.
Another step that's simple to overlook is replacing the lower hinge door locating cams onto the new hinges. These cams act as the main supports of the door and help move it into the perfect fit of the open fridge door space.
And finally, spacers. These tiny pieces of metal are easy to forget but are always necessary for door hinges to last for a longer and experience less wear and tear over extended periods of time and extensive use.
An improper refrigerator door hinge replacement could easily lead to some troublesome bothers and headaches.
The number one problem that occurs with improper hinge replacement is the actual bending and/or breaking of other hinges and even parts of the door frame itself.
This is due to the fact that many people overlook the simple practice of including supports such as a block of wood, a vice grip, or even a few books.
Refrigerator doors can be bulky and awkward to maneuver, but add a little gravity and torque to the mix and you have a recipe for some bend door hinges and maybe even a busted door frame as well.
